remember when Elon Musk said he’s probably gonna let a bunch of people die on the mars mission?
yeah.
“You might die. It’s going to be uncomfortable. You probably won’t have good food. And all these things. An arduous and dangerous journey where you may not come back alive, but it’s a glorious adventure… Honestly, a bunch of people probably will die in the beginning.”
I’m glad we’re recognizing his willingness to let people die so that he can play Star Trek because it doesn’t even start with this Mars mission.
Commercial space flight, leisure space flight, reusable rockets? These are climate catastrophe accelerants, and if in a decade every third millionaire is vacationing in the exosphere that 2050 global extinction deadline will absolutely become 2035.
Oligarchs would rather kill us all in order to perfect the technology necessary to live off world, than restructure the global economy to stop killing the planet
If we stopped doing science because it was being funded by a rich asshole, we would never discover anything.
The COVID vaccine wasn’t discovered or funded by a rich asshole, it was funded by the government, aka our taxes. NASA isn’t funded by a rich asshole, it’s funded by our taxes. There is a ton of scientific research going on funded by universities and the government and even public companies not owned by oligarchs. There are plenty of options.
The belief that all scientific advancement was funded solely by rich assholes is a lie told to us by capitalists.

Bro he’s just being real. What he’s saying here will be true no matter who goes to Mars or how it happens. And you know what? I would sign up in a heartbeat.
